This lovely post was written by Tabitha of BlondedLights. Read about why Tabitha loves summer!
I grew up in the south where even in the winter we have pretty warm days and being so close to Florida I visited yearly if not more as a child. I grew up in the pool, beach, and lake. All my summers were spent by the water. If it’s a pretty day I prefer to be by the water…
My fondest memories are in the summer and always surrounded by water. I learned to swim in the pool at an early age and spent all summer days surrounded by the pool with family.
My family takes yearly vacations to Florida in the summers and I actually got engaged last Fourth of July on the beach with my entire family watching at sunset. This is probably my fondest memory yet.
My seasonal jobs in high school consisted of lifeguarding at the local pool.
During my college days, my summers were spent on the lake, on a boat or traveling somewhere tropical. Anything to do with the water and I’m a happy girl.
Snorkeling, scuba diving, tanning, boating etc. The water always calms me even if it’s just listening to water dripping, a bubble bath, or the lovely sound of a rain shower or thunderstorm.
The days are longer, warmer, and slower. Time slows down and I love that. Some call this island time and I wish I could live on island time forever.
Food & Clothing
Another reason I love summertime is the food… Yum! I’m talking BBQ and any kind of cookout on any given day with ice cream for dessert is perfectly normal where I’m from for no occasion at all. Watermelon is another summer fave.
The clothing is easy and free! My staples are bikinis, cover-ups, flip-flops and a messy bun. If I am going to dinner or somewhere at night it is usually going to be some sort of maxi or sundress.
The smells that come with summer are always amazing. Flowers have always been something I love and gardening here and there. Clearly, summer brings all the plants and flowers with it. I usually have some kind of flowers planted on my patio. Coffee time on the patio in the morning is like therapy for me and my happy place. Not to mention the smell of salt water, sunscreen, chlorine, all these things take me right back to summer memories every single time I smell them.
Summer naturally brings the sunshine which naturally brings endorphin’s so it’s no surprise on my end why summer is my favorite. I enjoy getting outside with my dogs and it’s so much easier in the summer.
Winter isn’t terrible for me but it’s simply not the same and doesn’t bring as much to mind when thinking of memories and Winter definitely doesn’t bring me closer to the water… in most cases. Sometimes you can still get some water in the winter in colder places like Niagara Falls. I do love the other vacations without the beach but I prefer a warmer climate.
We all complain about summer until she is gone then we long for her. I personally love her all year long and everything she brings.
